The star has given the complete sum of his £25,000 Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which works to save the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was given the cheque on mid-October as his new release his work was declared the best record of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the shows I did around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

He also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

The donation supported locations that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges caused by flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

Fender is among several artists to give his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when Pulp earned the award in the mid-90s for their album Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the charity War Child.

In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite shared her award among a few charities, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," she shared with outlets.

In recent years, they gave their winnings to the youth organization that developed their act, as well as other local music groups.

Also 1994 winners M People gave their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," said artist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in the city and the other in the city were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "shares" in the properties.
