It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
